'Karibu' translates to 'You're Welcome' in Swahili and this is exactly how you feel at Karibu Restaurant in the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town.
Arriving at our table to an almost full restaurant we were impressed with the décor and vibey atmosphere of Karibu.
We were immediately welcomed and greeted by our waiter Innocent who made us feel right at home and told us about the menu and offered us drinks.
The menu is extensive but we settled for the Salmon Rosti and Snoek Pate’ as starters. The Salmon was some of the best we have had and was perfectly complemented with the Balsamic Vinegar. The Snoek pate’ was delicious and a very refreshing starter.
Karibu offers everything from Venison, traditional specials, steaks, soups and even braai (barbeque) options. After discussing the main meal options at length, we decided on the Lamb Shank and Karoo Lamb Chops. The Lamb shank was slow roasted in rosemary, garlic and red wine and accompanied by a herbed mash. The meat literally fell off the bone and it was an exquisite dish. The Karoo Lamb chops are prepared the traditional South African way and came with a delicious Putu and Chakalaka. The meal was absolutely superb.
For dessert we chose the Traditional South African Brandy Pudding and Malva Pudding. Both dishes were mouth wateringly delicious and were accompanied by a custard and ice-cream.
We ended off our dinner with Irish coffees after one of the best meals we have had along with some traditional South African entertainment which was definitely a highlight of the evening.
Karibu is truly a gem in Cape Town offering visitors an authentic South African dining experience with exceptional service and a great vibe.
